June 13th Council Meeting Update

Last night we had a Council meeting. We were back in person and on Zoom but had some audio issues at the beginning of the meeting. Thank you for your patience as we work through these challenges.

Our meeting was fairly straightforward yesterday. We passed an ordinance setting the salaries for part time crossing guards and dispatchers. An ordinance was introduced to regulate utility poles. The hearing on that ordinance will be at our next meeting.

Under resolutions we accepted the 2021/2022 VMAC grant of $4,112.24. We awarded contracts to the Land Conservancy for our open space work, Miracle Chemical Company for chemicals needed for the water sewer plant, Capitol Supply Construction Products for the installation of a new water service line at the pool (which will be installed after Labor Day), and an award to DMR Architects for Planner Services to help us with fulfilling our agreement with Fair Share Housing. We also approved the Juneteenth flag raising, which will be raised Friday June 17th through the end of the month. A special event honoring the flag raising is tentatively planned for Tuesday June 21st.

We did not take action on signing off on the pool rules by resolution, based on my request and others on the Council. We sent them to the Recreation Advisory Committee for their input, review and reorganization.

The Council discussed some edits to an ordinance on road openings, which we need in order to better manage road openings with the public utilities. I hope this ordinance is introduced at the next meeting.

The Council went into Executive Session where we discussed several important matters.

Finally, I wanted to say that I have heard several concerns from residents on the safety of our drinking water, especially after the last notice that was sent by Passaic Valley. I have asked the Township Manager to develop a communication to residents on this matter to assure the public that our water is safe to drink, and we need a web page that summarizes everything residents need to know about our ongoing water supply issues. More on this to come.

As always, should you have any questions or comments, please email the entire Council at https://www.veronanj.org/council.
