Statement on Councilwoman Holland's Resignation

At Monday night's meeting, Councilwoman Holland resigned after nearly 5 years of service on the Council. The following is a summary of my public statement from Monday's night's meeting.

I am proud to call Councilwoman Holland not only my colleague of the past five years, but also my friend. Councilwoman Holland and I met when our children both attended Forest Avenue School, and we both volunteered extensively with Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense in America. Councilwoman Holland was focused in particular on the safety of children, and she became a trained presenter in the Be SMART program, which helped to educate parents and caregivers on the risks of unsecured firearms.

Throughout her service, she was an exceptional Councilwoman who consistently elevated the level of discourse on the Council while helping save Verona taxpayers millions of dollars.

Residents could always trust that Councilwoman Holland approached every issue thoughtfully and strategically. She was financially responsible, valued and championed the diversity of our community, and was deeply committed to ensuring that the interests of families—and especially children—were represented in the decisions we made as a governing body.

I will greatly miss serving alongside Councilwoman Holland. During our five years together on the Council, we set a Verona milestone as the longest-serving consecutive pair of women to be on the governing body. Some of my fondest memories are the opportunities we had to speak with local Scouting troops, particularly Girl Scouts, and encourage young people to become engaged in their communities and consider public service in the future.

It is difficult to imagine this governing body without Councilwoman Holland. I am grateful for her friendship, partnership, and dedicated service to Verona, and I wish her every success and happiness in her new professional opportunity.
