The Verona Planning Board is having a Special Meeting on Thursday, June 19th at 7:30 pm at the Verona Community Center to discuss and vote on a special 10-year plan to satisfy Verona's affordable housing obligation. You can find the document for this meeting here: https://www.veronanj.org/departments/planningboard/planningagendas.
The plan details that Verona's affordable housing obligation is 155 prospective units, but its "realistic development potential" is 57 units. That obligation will then be satisfied with the following redevelopment of properties:
320 Bloomfield Avenue (near Church Street)
Hillcrest Farms
Richfield Regency
176 Bloomfield (next to Everett Field)
855-885 Bloomfield Avenue (wooded area across from the Community Center)
Approved rezoning that allows an assisted living facility at 251 Grove Avenue
Approved rezoning on Bloomfield Avenue between South Prospect and Montrose
Future rezoning of the entire Town Center zone (not yet approved)
Senior housing surplus from Hillwood
To see more details on each of these projects, start on page 30 of the document presented under the agenda.
After the Planning Board votes on this plan on Thursday, the Town Council will be voting on endorsing the plan and a plan to spend our affordable housing trust fund to satisfy these obligations. That will happen at our meeting on Monday, June 23rd.
Almost every municipality in New Jersey is required to adopt these affordable housing plans before June 30th.
I encourage residents to read this document and attend both the Planning Board and Town Council meetings on this topic. Any questions can be sent to the entire Town Council here: https://www.veronanj.org/departments/townshipcouncil.
